What is James H. Groves Adult High School?

James H. Groves Adult High School is a state approved evening secondary school designed to provide adults and out-of-school youth with an opportunity to complete a high school education and earn a State of Delaware High School Diploma. The school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

What are the graduation requirements?

The State Board of Education requires a minimum of 22 credits for graduation . Credits can include 4.5 as electives and 17.5 required credits prescribed as:

  • English 4 credits
  • Social Studies 3 credits
  • Mathematics 4 credits
  • Science 3 credits
  • Health .5 credits
  • Career Pathway 3 credits

How will I know which courses I will need?

Counselors will assist you at registration and will evaluate your educational history to determine credit needs and proper placement. Please provide an official high school transcript to expedite your registration.

What are the costs?

The only cost for the program is your time and a $40.00 per semester (NON-REFUNDABLE) materials fee, due at registration.

What about childcare?

You and your child may be eligible for enrollment through the Even Start Family Literacy program where parents and children learn together. Groves In-School Credit Program for High School Students

Are you in danger of not graduating this year? Check out the"In-School Credit" program at James H. Groves Adult High School.

Classes are scheduled to provide flexibility for students who:

  1. Need additional required courses for graduation.
  2. Need to work for financial reasons
  3. Have family obligations and responsibilities.
  4. Function better in smaller classes

High School students interested in this program should contact their guidance counselor or call the POLYTECH Adult Education office at (302) 697-4545 for additional information.

How To Register

  1. Come to the Polytech Adult Education office. Our office hours are M-Th 8:00 a.m -9:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
  2. Complete a registration packet and pay a $40 registration fee.  You must pay a $40 registration fee in order to reserve a seat in an orientation and assessment session. You will need to provide an official transcript of all high school credits earned to date.  Prospective students ages 16-17 must provide a letter of recommendation.
  3. Attend an orientation and assessment session.
  4. Meet with a counselor to enroll in classes and establish your graduation plan.

  • Certificate of Educational Attainment 3 (CEA3)
  • Employment or training experience
  • Technical courses
  • Military training
  • Higher education courses
